About Us

The University Library has collections in various fields such as Accounting, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Management Technology, Psychology, Geography, English, Engineering (Electronics, Computer, and Mechanical), Finance, Geography, History, Nigerian Languages, Mathematics, Arts, Physics, Political Science, International Relationship, Religion and Sociology. Library services to the staff, and students, inter-Library loans, Information Literacy, Literature Search, Indexing, Bindery Service, Document Delivery, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Detailed instruction and teaching in Library use is provided to undergraduates as part of the General Studies programme. With its automation project, the University Library has moved into the 21st century. The Library software currently in use is Integrated Library Service (ILS, KOHA, DSPACE). This software comes in several modules which include Circulation, Reference Services, Cataloguing, Classification, Budgeting, Reporting, Serials, Acquisitions, Patron Management among others. It can also be adapted for Indexing of documents. The Library is on its way to having a virtual/e-Library compliment which will link the Library with the world via Internet.

The University Library now comprises the Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya Library (main Library), the FNAS Library, Mai Umar Mustapha Library, the IJMB Library in Temporary Site.

University Librarian

Maj. Gen. Muktar Muhammad Bunza (Rtd.) was born to the family of Malam Abubakar Mande Dansidi and Maryam Abubakar at Bunza town, in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State   on 28 December 1963. He attended Bunza Waje Primary School, Nassarawa Teachers Training College Kainji, College of Education Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ibadan and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Post Graduate School for his primary, secondary and tertiary education programmes respectively. Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in History (International Studies) from the Department of History and War Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

Major General MM Bunza was commissioned into the Nigerian Army on 4th October1989 as a Second Lieutenant and rose to his present rank of Major General on 4th October 2019. On commission, Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza was deployed to the Nigerian Army Education Corps. He held several instructional, staff and command appointments which included; Instructor, Nigerian Army School of Education Ilorin from 1989    to1996; Deputy Academy Librarian, Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna in 1996; Assistant Director Information Technology, Department of Research and Development, Defence Headquarters from 1996 to 2000; Librarian, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army, Minna from 2000 to 2004; Senior Research Officer, Institute of Army Education Lagos from 2004   to 2005.

Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza was the pioneer Commandant, Command Secondary School Suleja from 2005 to 2007. He also served as Chief Research Officer, Institute of Army Education Lagos from 2007 to 2008; Director, Directorate of Nigerian Army Library Services from 2008 to 2011; Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Nigerian Army Education Corps from 2011 to 2012; College Librarian, National Defence College Nigeria, Abuja from 2012 to 2014; Division Education Officer Army Headquarters Garrison Abuja in 2014 and Academy Librarian, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna from 2014 to 2015,  Commandant Nigerian Military School Zaria from December 2015 to January 2020, Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Education Corps from 3 January 2020 to 20 April 2021, Director Research and Documentation, Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace from 26 April to 16 July 2021. Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza assumed duty as the University Librarian Nigerian Army University Biu on 17 July 2021.

Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza attended several military courses as well as professional conferences, workshops and seminars within and outside the country. Major General Bunza is decorated with Forces Service Star(FSS), Meritorious Service Star(MSS), Distinguished Service Star(DSS), General Service Star(GSS), Training Support Medal(TSM) and Corps Medal of Honour(CMH). Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza served as a Member, Board of the National Library of Nigeria. He is a Member of the Nigerian Library Association and Certified Librarian in Nigeria; Certified Member, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria; Youth Ambassador for Peace; and a Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, Fellow, International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS), Fellow, Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza’s exemplary leadership qualities, integrity, moral and intellectual advancement endeared both individuals and groups to identify with him.  He was awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Commonwealth University/London Graduate School at a Top Leaders Workshop in Dubai United Arab Emirate in March 2019.  At home, Major General Bunza was honoured by National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), Northern Youth Anti-Corruption Ambassadors, National Association of Nigerian Universities Students, National Association of Kaduna State Students, Unified Nigerian Youth Forum, Sokoto-Kebbi-Zamfara Youth Progressive Union and National Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) Kaduna State Chapter.

Major General Muktar Muhammad Bunza is happily married and blessed with 2 daughters. The General is a humble grandfather. His hobbies include reading, sporting activities and admiring nature.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Students and staff of the University of NAUB can gain access with the university identification cards. However, the ID card does not serve as borrower’s card. Non-members of the university can gain access on presentation of a letter of introduction and valid identification card from their institution or employer. An admittance card would be issued following registration and payment of a required fee at the Main Library Circulation Desk.

Use the Traditional Card catalogue or the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Each contains materials held by the Library. If you cannot find what you need in the catalogue, please seek assistance at the Circulation Desk.

Seek assistance at the Circulation Desk or from library personnel in the reading areas if you have difficulties locating a book on the shelf.

You may seek assistance of the Reference Librarian if the book you need is unavailable in the library. The library may request to borrow a copy of the item from another library via its Inter-Library Loan Service or purchase it.
